What counts as a good typing speed?
The average adult types around 40 words per minute. Comfortable touch typists sit between 60 and 80, professional typists above 90, and anything past 120 is genuinely exceptional. Accuracy matters more than raw pace: a 70 wpm run at 98% accuracy beats a 90 wpm run riddled with corrections.
How WPM is measured here
One “word” is five characters, which is the standard convention. The score counts only the characters you typed correctly, so mistakes reduce your speed rather than being tallied separately. Raw WPM ignores errors and is shown alongside for comparison.
Getting faster
Deliberately slow down until you can type without looking at the keyboard, keep your fingers on the home row, and let accuracy come first — speed follows on its own. Sprinting and back-spacing is the habit that keeps most people stuck.
